Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is Age Concern Luton a registered charity?

Yes – we are registered with the Charity Commission (Registration no: 200463).

2. Where does Age Concern Luton work?

We are only able to work within the borough of Luton. This means that only people who pay their council tax/rates to Luton Borough Council are eligible for our services. However if you live outside this area we should still be able to put you in touch with your relevant Age Concern or Age UK group.

3. What age do I need to be to get help?

We work with people aged 50 and above. However if you look after or care for someone over 50 and live in Luton you can also access our services.

4. Is there a charge for Age Concern Luton services?

Whilst we would like all our services to be free unfortunately there is a charge for Home Support and Gardening in order to keep them sustainable. We also ask that members contribute towards food and transport costs at clubs. There may be a charge for some Handymen jobs if we need to purchase specific materials/parts though all labour is free. There is no charge for advice, or companionship phonecalls or visits.

5. When are you open?

Our main building, Bradbury House, in King Street is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. We are closed on weekends and Bank Holidays. The Meet & Greet service for people leaving hospital operates between 9am and 9pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 3pm on weekends.

6. Where are your charity shops?

We have two charity shops in Luton. Our shop at 257 Birdsfoot Lane can be contacted on 01582 572030 and is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. Our Farley Hill shop at 9 Market Square can be contacted on 01582 452999 and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 9.30am pm to 5pm and 9.30am to 4pm on Saturday. All profits from our shops are spent on providing services to older people in Luton.

7. How do I make a complaint, comment or compliment?

In the first instance we would encourage you to make a complaint, comment or compliment to your regular worker (if you have one) or call us on 01582 456812. Our full complaints procedure is available HERE.

8. I think someone is being abused/I have a safeguarding concern – what should I do?

Please call us on 01582 456812. We take safeguarding very seriously and all our staff and volunteers who have unsupervised contact with older people are subject to police checks. We work with our partners at Luton Borough Council on Safeguarding to help protect older people from abuse.

9. My question isn’t answered anywhere – can you help?

We will always try to help anyone who contacts us. Where we are not the best placed agency for a particular problem we may ask you to contact another organisation but we will always endeavour to help you find the help you need.
